Cookies Issues. This should be tested with and without proper proxy authentication and VPN access to verify the functionality does not depend on the network and connectivity factor. Similar to checkpoint 5, network dependency needs to be tested for personal emails as well [e.
Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail…etc. Checking links inside the system should also be tested for high and low bandwidth networks to ensure that the internal links are all navigable without any problem. Similar to checkpoint 7, this is related to checking links outside the system. Related to internal systems, some links may not work due to firewall restrictions. These limitations should be identified and attended to, accordingly. Some systems use external data feeds inside the system to give more information for the user.
For example, weather, news…etc. The system should also have a failsafe incase the feeds do not return any information.
When the application is attempted to be accessed via unsupported network, a notification should be displayed for the user asking to use a different network.
All these checklists have been prepared as guidelines to conduct the compatibility test. All these checkpoints may not be required for each application and depending on the specialty and domain of the system, further checkpoints will need to be added as well. Font size validation The font size specified may differ when represented in different browsers. Page layout in different resolutions Just as the font size validation, the page layout also needs to be tested in different resolutions and browsers. All images and alignment Images and alignments are two more common UI features that needs to be validated in every selected browser version. Header and footer sections Page headers and footers need to be consistent across the selected browser versions, therefore it needs to be verified accordingly.
Page alignment content to center, LHS or RHS When viewing the same content on different browsers, the standard browser features may differ if not specified explicitly.
Page styles The font styles, bullets and other styles used in the system should render the same way across selected browser versions. Special characters with HTML character encoding HTML Entities can be placed in source code like any other alphanumeric characters to produce special characters and symbols that cannot be generated in HTML with normal keyboard commands.
Page zoom-in and zoom-out functionality The system needs to be checked in each browser for general zoom in and zoom out functionalities inside the browser. Ads display — Usability validation if allowed If advertisements are allowed in the system, they should be tested for its usability in different browsers including mobile browsers.
